Wood chippings for you!

A pile of wood chippings.

After the activities last Saturday (15 March), there is a pile of chippings by the church tower (west end), for you to take away.

Please come and fill yer boots! (a wheelbarrow, car or other similar receptacle may be more practical ?)

If you like to make a donation for chippings removed, please go to Support our ministry and mission.

Thank you ?

Timber!

Under the guidance of experts, our team of temporary lumberjacks/jills using serious bits of kit, tidied up some long standing tree management issues.

Farewell lunch for John Woodhouse

Those who came to John Woodhouse's leaving lunch.

Many thanks again John (and for doing your own camera work).

Bells to Caterham

The Sunday morning service (9 March 2025) at St John the Evangelist commemorated and celebrated the installation of the bells in St John's in 1975. The bells came from St Mary's Lambeth.

During the service:

  • two of our ringers, Alan and Noel, read lessons
  • there was a talk: Noel made a brief introduction, focusing mainly on our band of ringers and trailing Milica’s talk on the bells themselves; Milica, using extensive research, dove down into the history of St Mary's bells that later became St John's Bells
  • there was ringing while communion was being taken
  • the vicar, Jaimée, blessed / rededicated the bells and bell ringers from the ringing chamber
  • after the service and during the refreshments we rang call changes

Robyn Jones, and Aida Rodriguez Ramos - Munch with Music - 5 March 2025

Powerful, evocative singing and deft, accomplished accompaniment with a wide range of performance pieces provided a rare treat at St John's last Wednesday.

Programme

Satie - La Diva de L'Empire
Nadia Boulanger - Cantique
Brahms - O kühler Wald
Florence Price - Night
De Falla - El paño moruno; Asturina; Nana; Cancion
Debussy - Pagodes (piano solo)
Madeleine Dring - A Bay in Anglesey
Schubert - Nachtstuck
Santoliquido -L'assiolo cantar
Coates - Bird Songs at Eventide
Zemlinsky - Empfängniss
Vaughan Williams - Silent Noon

The church was a little cool, so Robyn and Aida had to don coats, but hopefully the very warm applause was in some measure compensation.

From St Mary's, Lambeth to St John's, Caterham, the ringing rolls on.

Does anyone know where the church hall is please? ;)

New sign outside church hall.

Not much doubt now with the new sign.

As you can see the access to the front door is accessible and the railings have been rejuvenated (and protected) with a coat of paint. The interior improvements are coming on at pace.
